Happy New Year

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

Haven’t really had the time to blog lately. I’ve been spending most of my time with my family so blogging must take a back seat. I hope to be back blogging about scootering and life in general as soon as the holidays are over. But till then…..Happy New Year to all! Here’s to a, hopefully, better new year for all of us.

Christmas Day

Sunday, December 25th, 2005

What a Christmas. I told you it should have passed my by. My Dad’s back in the Intensive Care Unit after suffering what the ER doctor’s told us was a near heart attack of his newly bypassed heart due to complications from pneumonia. It was a bit fortuitous that we got to go the house earlier than usual since we had a chance to say our hellos and Christmas greetings before he fell ill.

Noche Buena, for the first time in the Isidro household was totally incomplete. My Dad and 3 of my siblings were at the hospital. We, the ones that stayed behind, trying to be all Christmas cheery. I was totally exhausted by the time my kids opened their Christmas gifts.

What a Christmas. Saw a friend at the hospital and found out from him that Sen. Bobby Barbers had just passed away that minute. Cong. Ace Barbers is the ninong of my youngest son Marco and a very good friend from way back. My condolences to the family. I never got to meet Popsie but from all the stories I got from Ace and his brothers Dean and Gov. Lyndon, I sure got to know him.

What a Christmas indeed.

In no Christmas Mood

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Christmas is fast approaching and I just wish it would pass me by a bit quickly this year. This has not been a good year for me, financially, and emotionally.

I don’t think anybody’s been spared financially this year, so no use in complaining about that. My emotional strain has come from my Dad’s physical condition. After having his triple bypass operation last August, or was it September, he’s now back in the hospital suffering from a bacterial infection in his lungs. Things are hopefully going to get a lot better but the damage has been done, I am drained, with a few days before Christmas, I have lost the spirit. I am now officially going through the motions just for the sake of my family, my wonderful wife Des and my two kids who deserve something better from me.

Hay naku, for whatever it’s worth, Merry Christmas to you all.

Poseidon!

Poseidon

Image and trialer from Apple Trailers.

They remaking my favorite disaster movie of all time! The Poseidon Adventure! I can still remember the old movie, where this bunch of people try to escape from a capsized cruise liner in the middle of the ocean. That movie kept me glued to my seat in a theater in Cubao for the whole duration plus had me deathly afraid of ships for quite a while.

Also what Poseidon Adventure reference would be complete without the song “The Morning After” by Maureen McGovern. Audio file also from theposeidonadventure.com.

Euroscoot 2005 Track Day

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Euroscoot, my scooter club, has just concluded it’s annual Track Day and Christmas Party at the Carmona Racing Circuit in Carmona, Cavite.

It was pretty well attended, almost 90% of the general membership showed up and despite the inclement weather, the good Lord showed us mercy and gave us a few hours of glorious sunshine good enough and hot enough to race under.

The traditional superpole, where each rider is timed on a flying lap, determines the grouping for the actual races. I did a so-so 1:13:47, I think that’s practically what I did last track day too. Oh well, just proves my point that I wasn’t born to race, not brave enough hehe.

Me at the track
Doing my best Rossi impression, not Vale Rossi mind you, Carlo Rossi!

The highlight of the day came when Clifford Certeza, our erstwhile animalistic rider, took the “King of Carmona” crown from 3-time winner and Vespa royalty Alfie “The Ex-King” Lim. It was an exciting race as Clifford took the lead from Alfie on the first turn of the last lap and never looked back.

Oh and there was another highlight to that race too. Scoot66 trackday winner Ricky Montelibano was a bit out of form as he crashed on turn 6 of the track. Following too closely behind Tony Fernando, Ricky was caught by surprise by Tony braking as he entered the apex of the turn. But Ricky emerged unscathed, nothing damaged except the ego and his pair of jeans.

Crash!
Caught on film! sort of…..

More details of that day and night can be found here. And the wonderful photos taken by some friends of the club can be found here and here.

The circus begins

Go on over to MLQ3′s blog for a blow by blow coverage of the first day of the Hello Garci coming out party.

Apparently he will no be known as the Commissioner formerly known as “Garci” since he was never known as Garci. Talk about spewing crap, this guys’ obviously got a whole load that would make Malabanan squirming with anticipation.

Vespa Attack!

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Last Saturday, December 3, 2005, the Vespa Attack was successfully held in various places in Manila. The brainchild of Fil-American hardcore scooterist from Chicago, Jordan Cinco, this Vespa Rally sought to bring together the various scooter groups in the city for a “Coup D’ Etat” of sorts.

Around 40 scooters attended this initial staging of the Vespa Rally. We certainly hope that there will be more to come in the coming years.

Again, my hat’s off to Jordan for bringing the community together for this event.

SEA Games Baseball

Monday, December 5th, 2005

A gold medal for the Philippines from another sport really close to my heart. Baseball!

RP batters assert SEA Games Supremacy from Manila Bulletin.

Reading through the list of names brought back memories of my playing days in UST and the UAAP, I think I actually played with and against some of these guys. Now if I can only convince my creaking bones to play ball again. Somehow I kinda doubt I can do it anymore. hay.
