MMDA Backs Down on Helmet Sticker Law

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

From MotorcyclePhilippines.Com

By: Gerry Cornejo, MCPF Director

Very early this morning, at around 0630H, July 28, I got this text message from MCPF Director ATOY STA. CRUZ – “ MMDA returns the ordinance (motorcycle plate no. sticker on helmet) to PNP NCRPO for further study they will not implement the said law”.

I was overjoyed with the news and immediately called up Director ATOY to get more details. He confirmed sending the text message and told me that he heard the news over one of the AM radio stations this morning.

Before requesting MCP main man BIMBO “BoyG” ISIDRO for a news posting on the MCP website, I called up MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando himself at around 0830H this morning (July 28, 2007) and was able to talk personally to Chairman BF, who confirmed the news.

Chairman Ferndando said that because of various concerns from the motorcycle riding community, the MMDA had indeed returned the proposal to PNP-NCRPO for further study.
In other words : HINDI NA PO MATUTULOY ANG IMPLEMENTATION NG PROPOSED MMDA ORDINANCE NA LAGYAN NG STICKER NG PLATE NO. ANG MGA HELMET NG MGA NAG-MOMOTORSIKLO.

MCPF Director Atoy Sta. Cruz added that according to his high-ranking sources at the PNP NCRPO, the police authorities will submit another proposal to the MMDA and DOTC, involving the use of reflectorized motorcycle vests NATIONWIDE and not only in Metro Manila. These vests will have the plate no., blood type and other important information that will identify the rider.

Director Atoy also said that this is something which the MCPF will be inclined to support because it will be for the safety of the motorcycle rider, and will be a more effective means of curbing crimes committed using motorcycles.

Mabuhay at maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga sumoporta sa MCPF, MCP at sa lahat ng mga tumutol sa panukalang batas ng MMDA ng lagyan ng sticker ang ating mga helmet.

Tisoy’s home!

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Finally, after a 3 week vacation at 2211 Works in Malate, Tisoy, my white PX 150 is home.

It took them a while to find out what was really wrong with him. He was making a lot of strange noises that really sounded awful. They ended up cracking the crank case 3 times and replacing almost all of the bearings inside, plus they also replaced my clutch plates which were worn down to nothing (not bad for almost 20,000 Kilometers). After all that pampering, he’s now back home and still as noisy as ever.

He’s still currently under observation because there’s still some klinging and klanking inside him which has baffled the boys of 2211 since they’ve practically turned the engine inside-out and found nothing wrong with it, and if they did they’ve replaced it already.

Oh well, it’s a Vespa, what can I say.

And on his first day home, we experienced probably one of the strongest downpours I have ever ridden in. But he got me home safe and sound, wet but none the worst for wear.

There’s still another chapter to this story, but that’s for another time.

Vespinoy Transformer!

Much as I would want to be a TransVespa no such thing exists so I think I’ll settle for Optimus Prime.

Scootering in Banaue

Gem of a picture I found on MCP. This was taken during the CMC (Cavite Moto Club) trip to Banaue a couple of weeks ago. We’ve been having problems with reposting that “other” banaue scoot pic so I’ve already got permission from the owner of the pic to reproduce it here on Vespinoy.

Really funny picture.

Thanks to Daddy G of the CMC for the picture.

You can see more of their pics and stories about the ride here.

Angono Ride

The boys from Angono, Rizal are going to be sponsoring a ride around their historic place on Saturday, July 14. Too bad I won’t be able to join because of a prior commitment. I was looking forward to this trip because Angono is such a treasure in our area (I grew up in the Rizal area too, in the now modern Marikina).

Here’s a peek of what’s happening that day.

Mika Brzezinski shreds Paris Hilton

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

I know it’s not my cup of tea, but this was just to good to pass up. Finally someone had the sense to say enough is enough. Now if they’ll only do the same here (think Ruffa, Gretchen and Kris). This god-awful skank stories glorified as news should really stop.

Good for you Mika!

John Rana on SCTRCST.COM

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

John Rana of WhoRidesAVespa.Com was recently interviewed by Dave Magano if SCTRCST.COM.
Of his first ever online interview, John had this to say…

But the coolness stops there! Don’t get me wrong. Dave did a pretty amazing job with how he edited our conversation. If you know me and if, after hearing it, you’d say it’s obvious that I was a nervous wreck the entire time; try to imagine how that could’ve sounded raw.

See what fame brings you John, now you’re a cinch a win the PBA again next year!!

New Theme

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Time for a change I say.

I was working on another site for my brother-in-law when I chanced upon this dark theme by Wolfgang Bartelme.

This looks really clean, albeit dark. I’m gonna make some small changes soon so be kind ;)

Gumaca and Back in a Day

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Though this ride is almost a month old, this still remains one of the hardest rides, physically I have ever been on.

A run in ride for the Granturismo, it was a perfect excuse for a ride. Up at 4:00 AM and at the meeting place at 4:30 AM. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten up that early for a ride, which just goes to show how long I’ve gone without a good ride. So once my schedule cleared up, I took this chance.

Bondoc Peninsula Arch
Bondoc Peninsula Arch

Hitting the familiar roads with the Granturismo is an exhilarating experience. Having traveled these roads before on my Vespa PX, I was enjoying the smooth and stable ride of the Granturismo.

Scooter Jealousy

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

My white PX 150 has just had a fit of scooter jealousy.

Just a couple of weeks ago I had him sent for a 2 day detailing job and now he’s broken into a hundred pieces in 2211 Works.

Replaced bearings here, replaced oil seals here, clutch had to be replaced, heck even the sight glass was cracked. After all of that, there’s still something wrong with him.

I hope he gets better soon, I can’t wait to ride him to work.
