Anung tingin n'yo rito at what are we going to do about this?

From Malaya Online Edition 25 June 2007
Metro LGUs to require motorcyclists’ plate number on their helmets

IN a bid to curb snatching, hold-ups and robbery cases perpetrated by motorcycle-riding men, the Metro Manila Council (MMC), the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), has passed a resolution requiring motorcycle owners and riders to paste their license plate numbers on both sides of their helmets.

The resolution was passed last Thursday during the 6th MMC council meeting attended by Mayors Feliciano Belmonte of Quezon City, Vicente Eusebio of Pasig, Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela, Imelda Aguilar of Las Piñas, Vice Mayor Marion Andres of Marikina and representatives of other Metro Manila mayors and the PNP.

The resolution would require motorcycle riders to use a permanent, waterproof sticker to display their cycle plate numbers on the left and right sides of their helmets, big enough to be read from a distance of 25 meters.

It also requires the one riding tandem, or the so-called back rider, to keep his face shield tilted up to make it easy for the public to identify his face, should he turn out to be a criminal.

MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando called on local executives to make the violation of this resolution a criminal offense instead of just a traffic violation, and make life difficult for those who will not comply by including in the penalties the impounding of the motorcycle aside from fines.

Police Chief Supt. Rey Roderos said 106 cases of motorcycle-aided robbery and snatching cases were recorded in 2006, and 36 similar cases have been reported during the first quarter of 2007. - Ashzel Hachero

Oh man!  I also saw it on the news tonite! Arrrrrgh! Napaka bobo! Bobo! Bobo! Freakin knee jerk reaction! Non-thinking bureaucrats! Another band-aid solution! A font readable at 25 meters wouldn't fit a helmet! What if I show them what I use is a buco helmet.

Buti nalang probinsyano ako. Smiley   I wonder if this will be implemented in Makati. Binay is known to ignore MMDA directives.

few questions... at ilang hula.

  • 25 meters? i guess big enough na matatakpan na halos ang helmet natin, left and right side  pa man din.
