hi bhong im really not quite familiar with prosumer cameras but im sure you wont go wrong with the Canon G9 or the Canon S5IS. you can also check out the leica d-lux 3.
for dslrs naman you can try the nikon d40x or the canon 400d which are entry level dslrs
not sure with their prices but try going to hidalgo in quiapo to get the best prices.
for basic photo lessons there are quite a number of good photgraphy websites where you can learn, you really dont have to go to a photo school to learn basic photography now thanks to the world wide web. you can check out the following local sites to get more information....
