Ride. Rest. Repeat.

Kitchie kitchie

My wife and I plus a couple of friends went out last night to “Esquinita” for a few drinks and the usual fare of gossip. We arrived a bit late since my wife wanted to see who would get evicted from Big Brother’s house muna. We never got to finish it since it was getting really late and our friends had been in Esquinita since 9pm.

Getting there we were surprised to learn that there was a PhP 200.00 entrance fee (consumable, 1 bottle of beer). And we were even more surprised to learn that Kitchie Nadal was playing there tonight, hence the entrance fee. Now, being a fan of good OPM, I didn’t really mind watching her since she is pretty famous in the alternative pinoy music scene, and this was going to be my first time to see her live.

She was very pretty up close (our seats were right beside the stage so we got to see her in all her glory, open zipper included), obviously she isn’t that telegenic but in person, she’s very, very pretty. The songs were good, albeit her set was really short and the crowd interaction was very minimal and, dare I say, strained. I didn’t really, ’twas good music for me.

What got me write this piece was the reaction of the rest of my friends. They, being of a not so liberal outlook in music, honestly looked like lost sheep during the entire performance. It was funny to see them trying to keep up with the music but getting totally lost almost as soon as the first verse ended. I really can’t blame them, it’s a totally different genre for us.

The night ended early for us, tired and feeling sticky from the humidity it was time to go home. Now a toast to good friends! A toast to Kitchie Nadal, my new crush! And finally a toast to Aleck Bovick, there’s life outside bahay ni kuya! Salut!
