The Philippines finsihed it’s campaign in the 23rd SEA Games Tenpin Bowling competition with a flourish!

Ces Yap won her fifth medal of the games, possibly making her the most bemedalled athelte of these games. Ces won the women’s All Events (the aggregate score of all the events in the competition) with a final tally of 5,507 pinfalls over 24 games for a scorching 229 average, a clear 200+ pins away from silver medalist Zandra Aziela from Malaysia and bronze medalist and teammate Jojo Canare of the Team Philippines. Ces put together the following scores:

  • Trios = 1489
  • Team of 5 = 1361

A truly dominating performance by Ces.

And this was only the beginning for Team Philippines.
Liza Clutario and Markwin Tee closed the show for Team Philippines by winning both the Women’s and Men’s Master’s Finals. Liza finished on top of the Women’s Masters 16 game finals with a score of 3,782 pinfalls before destroying eventual silver medalist Jazreel Tan of Singapore in the 2 game aggregate step-ladder finals 460(225-235)-372(177-195). I failed to catch that match on TV but needless to say I am very proud of the way our women performed!! Go Philippines!!

Markwin Tee also won the gold but took a different route doing it. Finishing 2nd with a score of 3809 pinfalls in the 16 game Men’s Masters Finals, Marwin had to beat Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia 196-179 in the semi-finals before facing lefty Remy Ong of Singapore in the Finals.

At the start of the finals it became apparent that Ong was struggling with consistency, this was the opening that Markwin was waiting for. As Ong struggled to find his line, Markwin slammed the door shut with a 3 bagger followed by another 4 bagger to close the final game. The final score was 437 (200-237)-366 (187-179).

Truly a proud day for Philippine Bowling!!

Go Team Philippines!!
