6th Angono Scooter Fiesta

The boys are at it again. On May 26, 2012, the Eastside boys will once again roll out the red carpet, among other things, to welcome all scooter enthusiasts and show them how to celebrate, the Angono way. Rest assured, Vespinoy will support this much awaited summer shindig. See you...

LS2 FF386 High Visibility

Not being a modular helmet fan, I was hesitant at first to do a review of the LS2 FF386 helmets, specially since none of the past modular helmets, of ANY brand, seem to fit me properly. But when Motoworld announced that they had the FF386 in High Visibility Yellow, I had to give it a try. I am a big fan of high visibility helmets. I believe they’re the best thing on the road to get seen, specially at night. I make it a point to always purchase light colored helmets and these were as light as you can get them. Color: High Visibility. Enough said. These babies are LOUD! You can be seen a good hundred meters away, even at night. The color works as advertised. Though they do come with a disclaimer about how the color may degrade when constantly exposed to heat/sunlight, I think that’s a small price to pay for the added safety to the rider. Besides you can always exclusively use it at night. Haha. Shape and fit: One of the reasons I’ve been partial to LS2 helmets was its shape. I have a big noggin so it’s quite hard for me to get a great fitting helmet. LS2 helmets have been quite easy...

A Small Victory For All

The Motorcycle Rights Organization has won a small but sweet victory against the implementation of the Motorcycle Lanes. Nope the dreaded lane is not suspended but the rules of it’s implementation has finally been released and they’re quite telling. The brouhaha started last Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012 when the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforced the Motorcycle Lane along EDSA without any Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRRs). The graphics shown on TV as well as reported by those apprehended by the MMDA revealed that aside from apprehensions based on the lane violations, the MMDA was enforcing a long suspended Land Transportation Office (LTO) AHS-2008-015 which rendered motorcycle modifications, among other violations, illegal. Motorcycle Philippines (MotorcyclePhilippines.Com) was there when this was suspended so we were up in arms when the MMDA began using the Administrative Order as a basis for apprehension along EDSA. After several private exchanges with MRO head Jobert Bolanos, Atty. Yves Gonzalez of the MMDA finally released the formal rules and regulations last Friday, effective today Monday, February 20, 2012, and it does not include the aforementioned violations. The MMDA has admitted that they were not aware that the Administrative Order was suspended. The MMDA being an executive body cannot create any law but will have...

Traitors in our Ranks

This morning marked the trial implementation of the much vilified EDSA Motorcycle Lane. To celebrate the Feast of Hearts, the MMDA has chosen to demonstrate the safety of their Motorcycle Lane by holding an ESCORTED motorcade down the busy Metro Manila thoroughfare. I was able to catch this on the news this morning and I literally could not believe my eyes. This was their much awaited and much vaunted demonstration. How, for the life of me, can you honestly say that THAT was a real world demonstration? You had MMDA escorts on the left as well as media on the either side covering the phalanx of uniformed (free shirts people!!) riders slowly crawling along EDSA. The brief newscast showed some of the participating riders and I immediately recognized some of the participants in the charade. Lo and behold, they were the so called leaders of the rider representatives. First and foremost, the Motorcycle Lanes as done by the MMDA is both wrong and dangerous. They were implemented without giving any thought to the welfare of the riders as well as the other users of the road. Haphazardly placed and hurriedly implemented without Implementing Rules and Regulations, these lanes were touted as savers of the riding public but behind it...
